Projects

Sans Passport has been commissioned to undertake the following consulting projects:

Freedom Charity

Freedom Charity, an organisation based in the United Kingdom (UK) with a worldwide agenda to address and raise awareness on the issues of early and forced marriages and honour killings, commissioned Sans Passport to draft a Strategic Framework and Plan of Action for the organisation to establish links with the United Nations and relevant UN agencies, including the new UN gender entity called UN Women in an effort to increase the international profile of Freedom Charity and comprehensively address forced marriages and honour killings.

Sans Passport successfully drafted a Strategic Framework and Plan of Action, including providing a background on the issue of forced marriage and an overview of the UN's work on the issue of forced marriage in the form of Conventions, resolutions and field projects. The Plan of Action outlined practical recommendations for Freedom Charity to implement, which related to work of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), UN Women, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Human Rights Council (HRC), the office of the Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women as well as other relevant agencies such as UNFPA. Timelines, guidelines and networking information was provided. Sans Passport also studied the feasibility of UN funding for the Freedom Charity projects in the UK through the UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF). The Plan of Action also outlined a methodology for interaction with member states to work towards the introduction of a UN resolution on forced marriages.

Sans Passport continues to work with Freedom Charity towards the full and effective implementation of the Plan of Action.

Afghanistan Women's Writing Project (AWWP)

The AWWP commissioned Sans Passport to formulate a resource list of Non-Governmental Organisations and other Women's Organisations operating in Afghanistan with the aim of providing women in Afghanistan (Kabul) with a reliable, secure and proactive outlet to address daily social and human rights challenges. The task also included the formulation of a Plan of Action to enable local women to interact with these organisations within a safe and secure environment.

Sans Passport successfully carried out this project and continues to assist the AWWP in the full and effective implementation of the Plan of Action.

FANRPAN Project

The Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN) based in South Africa, commissioned a strategic review on the impact of HIV and Aids on food security and household vulnerability in southern Africa, in particular in selected countries (Lesotho, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Malawi and Botswana). The task involved a review of the Vulnerability Committees (VACs) and Regional Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis Committees (RVAAC) reports linking them with FANRPAN-HVI project reports and the drafting of a new strategic framework.

The review was successful. Sans Passport drafted a strategic framework and highlighted information related to the number of vulnerability household in each country; the categories of vulnerability; the regions of vulnerability in each country and provided a map showing the vulnerability. Particular attention was paid to the role of gender and the impact on women.
